Spontaneous Gastric Perforation of the Newborns

Abstract
Spontaneous rupture of the stomach in a newborn infant is a rare condition and am unusual surgical emergency requiring early diagnosis and & treatment for surviving. Particularly premature infants are more susceptible than full term infants .The medical literatures contain reports of more than 190, cases of neonatal gastric perforation from the first reporting in 1825, of a case by Siebold to Shashikumar in 1975. The newborn infants are usually well until the third to fourth day, when progressive vomiting, abdominal distension and respiratory distress develop rather rapidly. The exact, role of the proposed etiological factors is still obscure. The most important diagnostic test is an upright film of the abdomen which will show free air beneath the diaphragm, or penumoperitoneum so called foot ball sign. In a review of the total operative case sand the survivals, it is seen that the, increase in survival ratio depend upon to a direct relationship to the interval between the onset of symptoms , and the time of surgery.
All the surviving patients in the series underwent surgical repairs. Thee need for gastrostomy during surgery should be individualized. Review of English literatures and the present two additional cases are reported.
